President’s Message

 

Welcome to Atlanta!  The Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association (SSUNAA) has served our beloved alma mater and local community for over 60 years.  We are a chapter with something for everyone!  Our diverse membership spans many decades, from the 1950’s to the 2010’s, and we welcome all alumni in search of a home in our association.      

 

One of the staples in our chapter’s illustrious history is our annual scholarship awards program.  Annually, we award as much as $15,000 in scholarships to incoming freshmen at Savannah State University (SSU).  Through generous donations from our membership and matching partners, we have afforded many students the ability to achieve their college ambitions.  In addition to this program, we continue to support other fundraising initiatives such as “Closing the Gap” by SSU and “130 Rise Up Campaign” by SSUNAA.  All of these campaigns work to increase the retention and graduation rates of our school. 

 

Our chapter embraces technological innovations to enhance our visibility and connect with the next generation of alumni leaders.  Through the use of a chapter app that can be downloaded to a mobile device, our alumni can connect to our posted events and support our initiatives via numerous payment options.  In addition to the app, we continue to increase our number of followers on Facebook and Instagram with relevant posts that keep alumni informed.  To make it easier for alumni to join us, we have added an electronic application to the app, website, and recurring newsletters.  While we have many years behind us, our technological tools have positioned us to be a chapter of the future.
